The Book review committee is falsely passing the responsibility to former directors of MRCA without divulging the true facts to the people.
The criteria and list of authors whose books are prohibited, were prepared by the same committee during Mr. ABM Ashraff’s time.
I expedited the process of clearance of Islamic books since there were so many books pending for Clearence when I assumed office in October 2022. The guidelines prepared by the MRCA during my time didn’t impose any restrictions on import of Holy Quran or its translations. This document is available in the DMRCA. Any one can go through it.
Why do the Book Reveiw committee worry about misunderstandings of other religious people about the contents of Holy Quran?
Holy Quran is for the Muslims. No Muslims in Sri Lanka or elsewhere challenged about the contents.
The Holy Quran has never been a cause for disharmony among the communities in Sri Lanka.
It is the Book review committee which prepared the criteria on their own and had submitted to my predecessor.
It should be noted that During my time, No Holy Quran or it’s authentic translations were prohibited or blocked.
So the Book Review Committee can make changes and get the Holy Quran cleared. If the Book Review Committee can’t clear the import of Holy Quran or it’s translations they should leave the position and let other scholars to do the job.
I am of the view that The Book review committee is no more necessary to control the import of Islamic literature, particularly the Holy Quran and it’s authentic translations, in the background of the current developments about of the Easter Sunday incident.
It would be better for NSC to convene discussions d invite all former and current directors of DMRCA, Book Review Committee members and Muslim intellectuals and find a solution immediately.
