The Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local
Government has spent 600 million rupees for Islandwide waste management for the
year 2016. Amount of money allocated for different projects on waste management
are as follows.
Rs. 405 million has been allocated for the Pura
Neguma project which is carried out by the Ministry of Provincial Councils and
Local Government.
1.
70 Hand Carts were given for Pradeshiya Sabhas.
2.
28 Compactors were given for Pradeshiya Sabhas.
3.
14 Bobcats were given for Pradeshiya Sabhas.
4.
14compactor machines were given for Pradeshiya Sabhas.
Rs. 100 million has been allocated for the National
Solid Waste Management Support Centre of the Ministry of Provincial Councils
and Local Government.
1.
Constructing 02 compost yards in Passara and Eheliyagoda.
2.
Repairing 06 compost yards in Mahawa, Boralesgamuwa, MadyamaNuwaragampalatha,
Nalloor, Nawalapitiya, NamalOya, Damana, Agalawatta.
3.
Constructing a sewage purifying centre in Kegalle.
4.
Repairing a sewage purifying centre in Galgamuwa.
5.
Distributing 09 Bobcats for Local Government institutions.
6.
Distributing 8000 compost bins for LG institutions.
7.
Implementing training programmes on waste management for sanitary
labourers.
8.
Organizing publicity programmes regarding garbage segregation.
Rs. 57 million has been allocated for the Development
& Planning Division of the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local
Government.
Distributing 7000 compost
bins for LG institutions.
Rs. 30 million has been given for the Ministry
of Provincial Councils and Local Government by the Punaruda Programme carried
out by the Presidential Secretariat Office.

Constructing 02 sewage purifyingcentres in Nawalapitiya and Walikamam.
2.
Upgrading 02 compost yards in Meerigama and Ja Ela.
Rs. 8 million has been given for the Ministry of
Provincial Councils and Local Government through a supplementary estimate to
remove garbage collected due to flood in Colombo and the explosion in Salawa.
Rs. 1250 million has been allocated for the National
Solid Waste Management Support Centre of the Ministry of Provincial Councils
and Local Government by the budget 2017.
